How To Create A Cleaning Routine That Really Works For You

Cleaning your home and keeping on top of all of your housework can feel like it is never ending – and overwhelming – unless you have cleaners chester to help – or a good plan.

If you want to stay in charge of cleaning your home, so that you are controlling your home instead of it controlling it, then you are in the right place.

How do you feel about cleaning your home?

Do you feel like you are always trying to catch up? Do you feel like you can’t get on top of it or create a system that works for you? Do you find it exhausting trying to do everything you are supposed to? Do you not invite people round to your house as you feel like it is not clean enough?

House cleaning is one of those things that will always need to be done, no matter how hard we try. So, why not take control back and help yourselves feel better about it.

The best way to do this, is to create a cleaning plan based around you and your home – and that works with the time you have available. It’s not about being perfect, that’s what cleaners Durham can help you with. Having your own routine is about making your home feel clean enough for you at any given point on any day, so that you feel less stressed about all of the things you need to do.

Sounds good?

So, why not follow this step-by-step guide to create your own cleaning schedule, and reclaiming your home once and for all.

Why do I need a cleaning schedule?

Some people see schedules as things that add more stress and hassle to their lives – but if used correctly they can actually take it away.

If your house never feels clean enough and you never quite know what the next job you tackle should be, then you are probably always subconsciously looking around for all of the jobs that need doing. This can be quite draining.

So, it’s now time to get to grips with your house for once and for all. Creating your own schedule means you can design it around what works for you, and then you don’t have to think about it, just do what you need to do and get things ticked off the list.

So, let’s work through the steps together. Grab a pen and paper and let’s get started.

Step One: Work out what needs to be done

Before you can write a realistic cleaning schedule for your home, you need to think about exactly what needs to be done to make it clean in the first place.

This sounds like an obvious thing to do, but I bet you have never sat down and thought about it before, most of the time you clean you are probably reacting to something – like a dirty floor. The trouble with this way of cleaning, is that things can easily get missed and you will feel like nothing is ever finished – making you more stressed.

So, the first step is to walk around your house, go in every room and then write down what you would clean – in an ideal world. Also, write down how often you would like to clean it – ideally.  Treat it like a brainstorming session at the moment, you can always refine it later.

Some examples of what you might write down are:

  • Empty the bathroom bin – weekly
  • Clean the toilet – twice a week
  • Change the bathroom towels – weekly
  • Declutter the bathroom cabinet – once a year

Now, don’t get overwhelmed at this stage. It may look like a really long task list of things that will never get done. It is just one step on the way to tackling it, and the next step is to group the cleaning tasks in some way.

Step Two: Group cleaning tasks by frequency

The next step is to group the tasks together by how often they need to be done as this makes allocating time for them much easier, and give you a better idea of what you need to do each day/ week. An example might be:

  • Daily – wipe bathroom and kitchen surfaces, do one load of washing, empty kitchen bin
  • Twice a week – hoover, mop the kitchen floor, clean the toilets
  • Weekly – polish, iron, change the bedding and towels
  • Monthly – clean the windows inside and out, deep clean the house

There is no right or wrong way to group items, by the way. Just go with how often you want to clean items. Some people like to clean more frequently, some people less frequently, everyone is different which is why your cleaning schedule should be individualised for you.

What is key at this stage is that you can look at your list and decide if you did everything on it, would you feel that your home was running smoothly and to your standard, and that you were in control of things?

Step three – refine the list based on how much time you have

Let’s take a second to think about this, people always overestimate how much they can get done in a certain amount of time – which is a highway to disappointment. So, think carefully about all aspects of your life, and exactly what time you have available.

Having a weekly schedule (for an average week) is the key to being more organised at home so that you can clearly see what you can fit in and where.

Everything should go on your weekly schedule – not just your cleaning routine. Work, hobbies, school activities, dentist and doctor appointments, and so on need to be planned out. This step is crucial to being able to figure out all of the chores that you need to fit in, and how much actual time you have to do them.

Step four – think about how you like to do things

Cleaning can be done in many different ways, and once you find a way that fits your personality it will just work, and you won’t be fighting against it all the time. Think realistically about the time you have available, and how you can arrange your cleaning and housing jobs to suit your way of living.

Of course, you may discover after all of this that you really don’t have the time you need at all, and this is where Maid App comes in. We have local, independent rated cleaners throughout the UK, from cleaners Ely to cleaners York who have the time to do the cleaning chores you need.
