Eight Things Professional House Cleaners Do In Their Homes Every Day

Having a home that is always tidy, may seem impossible – but it could be easier than you think. Check out these eight top tips from the professional house cleaners registered on Maid App.

Make Cleaning Simple

Have you ever looked around other people’s houses and wondered why there aren’t toys scattered everywhere and piles of washing up in the sink? I’ll let you into a secret, they probably used our find a maid app to book themselves a regular cleaner! Before you do the same thing, check out our top tips to help you to get well on your way to having a consistently clean home you will be proud to invite friends and family too.

#1 Make the bed – every day

Ideally, you should be cleaning your bedroom once a week at least, but to keep them in order in between these times there are simple things you can do daily. In the morning, make your bed and put your pyjamas away, and at night, put your discarded clothes in the washing basket to stop your bedroom from looking messy. You should also give your bedside table a quick tidy during the week, removing things like cups and plates.

#2 Make it easy for your kids to tidy up their toys

Kids rooms, playrooms and let’s face it, the whole house can soon start to look messy when you have kids, with tonnes of toy clutter everywhere! The best way to keep on top of this is to encourage them to put things away when they have finished playing with them, and you can do this easily with some baskets that are labelled to help them know what goes where e.g., ‘Lego’, ‘dolls’ etc. If your kids are not old enough to read yet, then add pictures of the toys instead of words.

Top tip: children’s toy chests can be a breeding ground for germs, so clean them out and spray them with child-safe disinfectant at least once a month.

#3 Clean your stainless-steel items often

Most homes nowadays have some stainless-steel items, whether this is in the kitchen or the bathroom. If you do own some you will know they very easily get marked, whether this is by fingerprints or water. Professional house cleaners keep on top of their stainless-steel items by wiping them daily with an oil-free cleanser to not only protect them from watermarks but also repel any substances that may tarnish them – meaning they will need minimal attention when it comes to giving your house a deep clean.

#4 Wipe down the bathroom sink – daily

If you want to keep on top of your cleaning, you should wipe your bathroom sink every time you use it. Every single time. Now, this might sound excessive, but just try it yourself and you will see what a huge difference it makes. Toothpaste and make-up stains can build up daily, so just grab a damp paper towel and wipe the taps, around the basin and the top of your sink. If you have time, you could give the mirror a quick spritz with some glass cleaner too.

#5 Sanitise surfaces that are most commonly touched

Again, it may seem a lot to clean your tv remote daily, but this little piece of technology is often the most touched item in the house. It is usually covered in food crumbs, hair, and sticky finger marks. The best way to keep on top of it is to wipe it down with a disinfectant wipe every day. You should also sanitise door handles, light switches, toilet flushers and taps as well – as these are all places that can be breeding grounds for germs.

#6 Set aside some time for tidying

All of the professional house cleaners registered with Maid App will tell you that they set aside ten minutes or so at the end of the day to get themselves set for the next day. Loading the dishwasher at the end of the day, and setting it off, means it will be ready to unload the next morning – instead of waking up to a pile of dishes in the sink.

#7 Keep similar things together

Keep baskets near your front door for shoes. Hang your keys in the same place every day. Hang coats up as soon as you get in the door. When you put things in their place as soon as you’ve finished using them, your house will immediately feel tidier – and you won’t mislay things as often either.

#8 Check your ceiling and your floor

Dust and cobwebs are a sure sign that a home is neglected, so make sure you have a quick look round to see if you can spot anything obvious – and then get rid of it if you do. Look up at the ceiling to see if you can spot and cobwebs, and down at the floor to spot piles of dust. Getting rid of these things takes seconds, and can make a huge difference to how clean your home feels.
